A couple days ago, I came across a video by Nate Carter who ‘quantum jumped’ into a new reality by changing his daily schedule.
“Think of it as being in the right place at the right time,” he said. “If I was still asleep at this time, the insight that was meant to find me wouldn't have. Instead, here I am, awake at 6am, channeling this message for you.”
He articulated something I’d been thinking about for a while now:
Since April, I have been slowly letting things go from my life.
Friends. Community. Obligations. Dated ways of thinking, building, living my life. I think so often when we think about changing our lives on the cusp of transition, we think about More. Adding in more routines, more knowledge, more coaching, more structure.
I’m realizing the opposite is true: There is brilliance to deconstruction. To let the existing structures fall away, so your true priorities and cadence can naturally emerge.
This process is scary as shit. But it’s exactly what I had to go through since April, when I fractured my foot.
By clearing space in my life, I naturally found what gave me time, clarity and energy.
This morning, per my new experiment, I woke up at 5:45am.
There is something about being awake in the inky blackness of dawn. Without the stimulation of light and noise, my normally chaotic thoughts were quiet. I found myself better able to think, pray, tune into my body. I noticed a quiet anger arise, a result of some medical revelations that came up yesterday (I share more on the pod). I took myself onto the balcony and tuned into the sensations within.
Suddenly, a knowing dropped in, clear as day:
I needed to release.
I went back in, grabbed a pillow, and barely made it in time before I released a primal scream into it. I pummeled it, imagining all the rage, the frustration, the past few months of confusion pouring out.
There was absolutely no way I would’ve caught that if I was on my usual ‘timeline’, snoozing in bed till 11am.
Maybe there was something to Nate’s hypothesis after all.
I will keep y’all updated. See you next Wednesday!
In this episode, I share updates on Gwen Gets Weird, a new experimental routine I’m running on myself, what happened after getting a second opinion on my foot injury, and why I’m beginning to think that downsizing our lives might be one of the most underrated parts of any transition.
